MD Abu Taher

MA and M.Phil, World Religions and Culture, PGD, B.A. Hons. History Dhaka University, Bangledash

Md. Abu Taher is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of World Religions and Culture in the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He earned B.A. Hons. in History, M.A. in World Religions and Culture and M.Phil. in World Religions and Culture. He was also awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Youth Development and Work under the Commonwealth Youth Programme. Abu Taher has successfully completed one-year fellowship programme on Interfaith Dialogue from KAICIID, Austria on November of 2017.

He has special interest in the area of religious history,religious history of Bangladesh, interfaith dialogue, peace movements, conflict transformation, violence mitigation and religion and Environment.More than 25 research papers and scholarly articles have been published in leading journals and chapters in edited volumes. His most recent publication is a titled Japan: Society, Culture and Religion(2020),A Historical Perspective,A Discourse on the Religions of Bengali People(2021) and History of the Department of world Religions and Culture (1999-2021) of Dhaka University(2022). His forthcoming book is titled National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and his views on Interreligious harmony.

He is a member of several local and international interreligious and intercultural organizations, such as; International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF Bangladesh Chapter), United Religious Initiative (URI Bangladesh CC), Asian Conference Religion and Peace (ACRP) and Vanguard of Light. He has also founded a youth development based social and humanitarian organization in his hometown for disadvantaged youths.
