Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko

Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko, born on July 13, 1966, is a distinguished Nigerian scholar, religious leader, and peace advocate renowned for his unwavering commitment to interfaith dialogue, education, and social cohesion. His diverse career spans academia, international peace initiatives, and religious leadership, reflecting his deep dedication to fostering understanding and harmony among different faith communities.

 

An Advocate of Interreligious Education in schools, promoter of Religious Youth Community Service, passionate champion of the creation of ministry for interreligious affairs, convener of the Conference of Religious Educators and Leaders, proponent of House of Representatives of Religions, etc, Dr. Ralph Ogar Oko previously served as Secretary General, Universal Peace Federation – Nigeria, was Africa Regional coordinator, Teachers Without Borders. Dr. Oko serves on the Board of several local, national and international NGOs and has spoken at various conferences locally and internationally. He is Director, World Peace Center, Okpoma Yala, Founder, Peace and Unity Media Enterprise, Director, International Marriage and Family School and Promoter, UN Interfaith Harmony Week and champion of Interreligious Pilgrimage, etc initiator, One God Village Initiative.

 

Oko's educational journey began at the University of Port Harcourt, where he studied and laid the foundation for his multifaceted career. His academic background is rooted in the fields of mathematics, statistics, and computer science, disciplines that underscore his analytical prowess and systematic approach to problem-solving. After completing his university education, he served as a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, imparting knowledge to students and contributing to the academic community in his areas of expertise.

 

Beyond academia, Oko has held several influential positions in international and national organizations. He served as the Africa Regional Coordinator for Teachers Without Borders; an organization committed to improving global education standards and teacher development. His leadership role involved coordinating efforts across the continent to enhance educational quality and access. Additionally, he was the Secretary General of the Universal Peace Federation Nigeria, where he championed peacebuilding initiatives and interreligious harmony within Nigeria.

 

A notable promoter of the United Nations Interfaith Harmony Week, Oko champions initiatives such as interreligious pilgrimages and the One God Village Initiative, which seeks to create community spaces for worship and dialogue among different faith groups. These initiatives aim to break down barriers, dispel stereotypes, and build bridges across religious divides.
